Dublin derbies are always tense affairs but this clash at Dalymount Park tonight, kick-off 7.45pm, could make or break either side's title hopes.

Bohs are very much the outsiders after a 2-0 defeat to UCD on Monday left them in fifth position, seven points adrift of leaders Sligo Rovers with just five games to go.

But the Gypsies have not given up hope completely and a victory tonight would certainly put them back in the hunt for a European spot next season.

"It's a massive game [against St Pat's]. If we win, we're right back in it," midfielder Glenn Cronin said.

Captain Owen Heary has been struggling with a hamstring injury, but may be fit to take his place in the Bohs defence. Liam Burns remains out with a calf complaint, while Cronin (hamstring) is considered a doubt.

St Pat's lie just one place above Bohs in the table but have four more points in the bag and a win would see them move level on top with Sligo and Shamrock Rovers on 61 points.

However the Saints have an inferior goal difference and would need to win by six goals to dislodge Shams and by 11 to go above the Bit O'Red.

Pat's have taken five points from their three league games with Bohs this season, with two draws at Richmond Park and a 1-0 win at Dalymount in May courtesy of a Daryl Kavanagh goal.

Saints boss Pete Mahon expects that both sides will be going all out for a win.

"The game is a must win game for both teams for different reasons," Mahon said.

"For us every game from now until the end of the season is must win if we have any hope of finishing top - and even then it may not be enough.

"Bohs have to win for different reasons and we're aware that they're trying to catch us and win a European spot for themselves.

"It's a Dublin derby and the games between sides normally have a bit of controversy.

"They had two players sent off the last time and there's always an incident or two to keep things interesting. Personally I like going to Dalymount because it's a good pitch and Pat's always bring a good crowd over so the atmosphere should be great."

Dave Mulcahy remains sidelined for Pat's with a hamstring injury but Dave McMillan (hamstring) and Ian Bermingham are back in training after missing recent games.

Evan McMillan has been hampered by a calf injury but should be fit to start in Phibsboro.
