Late Doyle Goal Denies Blues

Robbie Doyle struck late to give St. Pats a 1-1 draw in Waterford tonight and deny Waterford the opportunity of escaping from the relegation play-off spot.

Waterford started stronger and St. Pats keeper Brendan Clarke had to pull off a couple of good saves to keep out efforts from Kevin Waters.

Vinny Sullivan volleyed Waterford ahead in the 19th minute as Waters floated in a deep cross.

Waterford were on for their third win in four games and a result that would drop the Saints into the play-off spot.
However, in the closing five minutes Doyle got in on the end of Barry Prenderville's long ball to volley the Saints level and grab one of their most important points of the season.

The Saints almost snatched a winner deep into injury time but Stephen Caffrey's header just cleared the crossbar, nicking the goal-frame on the way over.
