St Patrick’s Athletic 0-0 Finn Harps
Finn Harps dropped to the foot of the Premier Division table and St Patrick’s Athletic themselves remain deep in relegation trouble after a dour scoreless draw between the sides at Richmond Park on Friday night.
Waterford United’s first win in five months saw them climb to 20 points, now two ahead of Harps, while Saints, on 23 after this result, are far from out of the woods just yet.
With Shamrock Rovers winning against Longford, it appears that Waterford, Harps and Pats will be the three to fight it out to avoid the automatic drop spot and play-off place over the next six weeks.
Perhaps it was because the stakes were so high that made it a game of few chances, with neither side keen to attack with any degree of recklessness.
Ian Maher thought he had put Saints in front on the hour mark, but the winger’s effort was ruled out by an offside flag.
At the other end, Harps had three decent chances to claim all three points, but defender Shane Bradley screwed an effort wide of the near post while top scorer Kevin McHugh sliced one shot high and wide and saw another beaten away by home keeper Barry Ryan.
