A SUPERB 62nd minute strike by winger Sean O'Connor was enough to guarantee St Patrick's Athletic their first win of the Premier Division campaign with a deserved victory over UCD at Belfield Park.

This victory was no more than St Pat's deserved as they had dominated the early stages when the always lively O'Connor blazed over the bar from close range after a perfect cross from the right by Trevor Molloy.

College rarely threatened although one clever move down the right by Ciaran Quinn enabled Conan Byrne to get in a cross shot well saved by 'keeper Barry Ryan.

Irish U21 international 'keeper Darren Quigley came to UCD's rescue on 36 minutes when he blocked a close range effort from Mark Rutherford after a Molloy corner on the left and Michael Foley shot over the top from the rebound.

The Inchicore men at last took the lead on 62 minutes when O'Connor took advantage of a loose ball on the left to hammer home a shot from 25-yards past Quigley into the top right hand corner of the net.
