St Patrick's Athletic 0 - Bohemians 1Bohemians won the Setanta Sports Cup final thanks to a header from Anto Murphy at Tallaght Stadium. A crowd of 3,896 saw Murphy power in the winner on 24 minutes to ensure the Gypsies claimed the trophy after their very first season in the Setanta Sports Cup. Bohs secured the cup when Murphy met Killian Brennan's corner from the right and headed past Gary Rogers at the near post. Both sides were making their first appearance in the final of the cross border competition, Bohs in their maiden campaign and Pat's in their second. Bohs boss Pat Fenlon was looking for his first victory at the Dublin 24 venue while Pat's manager Pete Mahon was hoping to get his hands on a trophy 20 years after leading non-league St Francis to runners-up spot in the FAI Cup. Pat's looked the hungrier of the two sides as the action kicked off in the foothills of the Dublin mountains. A Ryan Guy somersault throw-in into the area on six minutes was knocked out to Vinny Faherty, but his header went over, helped by the fingertips of Bohs keeper Barry Murphy. Paul Byrne had a shot on for Pat's a minute later, but fired straight at Murphy. Bohs were soon in their stride and at the other end Jason Byrne went agonisingly close to putting them ahead on 13 minutes when he connected with Murphy's ball from the right. Byrne flicked the ball on target from inside the six-yard box but Rogers blocked the ball and turned it out for a corner. The high tempo action continued throughout with Aaron Greene for Bohs and Pat's Conor Kenna both forcing their opposite goalkeepers into making saves. All the positive play suggested a goal was likely to arrive sooner rather than later and the opener duly arrived on 24 minutes. Brennan's perfectly-weighted corner from the right was met by former Saint Murphy in the packed area and he directed a fine header past Rogers at the near post. Pat's fought back but apart from another Guy somersault before a throw-in on 36 minutes, their large support in the East Stand had little to cheer about. Gareth Coughlan went near with a free-kick on the stroke of half-time but Murphy was well placed to save the ferocious strike. Bohs were forced into making a change for the second half. Aaron Greene, who scored arguably the goal of the season last year for Galway United against Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium, picked up an ankle knock and was replaced by Paddy Madden. Bohs actually tried to make the change in first half injury-time, but time was up before a break in play came to allow the change. It was Pat's though who again had the better start and Coughlan clipped the top of the crossbar with a rasping shot on 47 minutes. On 61, a Conor Kenna effort was knocked back by the Bohs defence, but the well placed Dave Mulcahy failed to capitalise, blasting his shot high and to the left. Mulcahy clearly hadn't brought his shooting boots, for he did the same a minute later, this time firing high over the top from outside the area. Mahon introduced Alex Williams for Paul Byrne midway through the second half to freshen up his attack. He later brought in Conor Sinnott and Derek Doyle but they couldn't find a way past a well organised Bohs. © RTÉ
