Kenny - Derby Win Would Be 'hugely Significant'
St Patrick's Athletic Manager Stephen Kenny says three points against Shelbourne tomorrow night would be "hugely significant" for his team.
The Saints host their North Dublin rivals at Richmond Park on Monday evening, in what will be a third meeting of the sides this season.
The last time these teams faced off in Inchicore was a scoreless draw in April, while Shels nabbed the points in the last minute in 2-1 victory at Tolka Park in May.
It's a second home game over the weekend for St Pat's, speaking after Friday's 0-0 draw at home to Drogheda United, Kenny feels his team should have taken all three points.
"We created a lot of chances in the game and missed a penalty, against a team that sat in and were very difficult to break down. It was definitely a game that we deserved to win but the ball just didn't quite go in for us on the night.
We kept a second consecutive clean sheet and we must look to build on that. We always feel we have the capacity to score goals so the value of keeping clean sheets can't be underestimated."
That was the third 0-0 draw between The Saints and Drogs this season, and followed a 2-2 draw at home to Waterford and a 1-0 victory in Sligo just before the break. A win tomorrow night could see Pat's, currently 4th, move to 2nd place in the table.
Shelbourne come into this match in 6th position, three points behind their hosts. They lost 2-1 at home to leaders Shamrock Rovers on Friday evening.
Kenny has been outlining what he's expecting from the Dublin Derby:
"Shelbourne will be a different game (than Drogheda), they have a strong squad with lots of options, it's a Dublin Derby and one we are looking forward to.
We want to keep out unbeaten home run going in front of our supporters (St Pat's last home defeat was a 3-2 loss to Dundalk on June 3rd last year), a big win tomorrow night could be hugely significant for the team.
We've got to rally around each other, stick together collectively and work hard for each other. I want the players to continue to believe in themselves and put in a strong performance to get the win that we desire, that has to be our objective."
