Match Preview Waterford FC Vs Saints (04/07/24)

St Patrick's Athletic will play their only league match this month when they make the trip to face third-placed Waterford FC at the RSC on Thursday night.

After a scoreless draw against Drogheda United, a 2-1 victory at home to Shamrock Rovers and a 0-0 draw with Bohemians, Stephen Kenny's Saints will be hoping to make it four games unbeaten as they look to push up the table.

The Saints have earned 28 points from their opening 24 Premier Division games and currently sit in 6th position in the league, a win tomorrow night would move the Inchicore side to within three points of Waterford in third spot with a third of the campaign to go.

OPPOSITION WATCH

The Blues have had an excellent campaign so far, having won promotion via the play-offs, Keith Long's side are in 3rd place, with 34 points from their 22 games.

Their last outing was a 2-0 away win over Dundalk at Oriel Park, with goals from Connor Parsons and Dean McMenamy securing another three points.

The previous fixture between these sides was on April 19th, with a Brandon Kavanagh goal cancelling out Maleace Asamoa's opener in a 1-1 draw at Richmond Park.

The first meeting of Pat's and Waterford was in March, with The Blues coming out on top (3-1) at the RSC.

A Padraig Amond double and an Asamoah strike were enough to give last season's play-off winners all three points at home, Anto Breslin got the Pat's goal.

KENNY: "We'll have to earn the right to win"

Manager Stephen Kenny has been looking forward to the trip to RSC in what is the only game for his team in the Premier Division in July before attention turns to the Sports Direct FAI Cup and UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers later in the month.

"We're looking forward to going to Waterford. They've had their best season in many years and Keith Long has done a fantastic job there.

They've got promoted and pushed right up the table. It's a game that we'll have to earn the right to win.

We've only conceded one goal in our last three games and we had such a strong finish against Bohemians but we couldn't quite get the winner that we really wanted.

We'll have to be at our best to get a result."

TEAM NEWS:

Ryan McLaughlin (calf) is the only absentee with new boys Joe Anang and Al-Amin Kazeem pushing to be available after officially joining the club this week.
