Preview: Saints Vs UCD AFC (30/06/23)

A busy period continues for St Patrick's Athletic as they welcome UCD AFC to Inchicore on Friday night.

Kick-off at Richmond Park is at 7.45pm, another big crowd is expected, some home tickets remain available online via our website HERE

The match will also be live on LOITV, Oisin Langan and Keith Treacy will be in the commentary box with their show beginning at 7.30pm.

St Pat's returned from the summer break with a 1-0 win against Shelbourne last Friday thanks to a fantastic Jake Mulraney free-kick, they followed that victory with a 1-1 draw in Dundalk on Monday, Conor Carty finished off an excellent move involving Sam Curtis, Jake Mulraney and Adam Murphy but Dano Kelly equalised in the closing stages.

They come into the weekend in third place in the table, with 39 points from their 23 matches, Jon Daly's men are seven points off the top.

UCD picked up their second victory of the campaign last Friday thanks to a 2-1 triumph at home to Sligo Rovers, Sami Clarke equalised before a brilliant Jake Doyle header won it five minutes from time.

Head To Head

The Saints have beaten The Students twice already this season and will be aiming to make it three this evening.

The first game between the sides was in the lashing rain at Richmond Park at the end of March, Chris Forrester scored twice with Jake Mulraney also on target in a 3-0 victory.

Ben McCormack grabbed a hat-trick of assists from corners in the game at The UCD Bowl last month, Noah Lewis (2) and Conor Carty were on target.

This will be the 85th league meeting of Pat's and UCD, the Inchicore men have won 39 of them, UCD have won 12 while the remaining 33 have ended all square.

"UCD are always a difficult opposition" - Daly:

Monday's game in Dundalk was the first draw overseen by Manager Jon Daly in what was his 10th game at the helm, his team have won seven and lost just two of the other nine matches.

St Pat's have won seven of their 11 home league games this season, and Daly is hoping to keep that positive run going but knows it will be a difficult match:

"UCD are always a difficult opposition, they've got good energy in their team and they've got some very good players, they are coming off the back of a fantastic win at home to Sligo, they've be in good spirits and will be confident coming into the game so it's important that we bring the same levels of energy that we've brought to the last number of the games.

We need to play with a tempo and we need to make sure we don't play slow against them, I think if we play slow, it gives them encouragement so we have to start fast.

The last few times we've played them we've got early goals or goals in the first-half which have helped so I think that's important also."
