Preview: Drogheda Vs St Pat's (09/06/23)

St Patrick's Athletic will be looking to keep up their excellent form with a win away to Drogheda United on Friday night.

Away tickets for the game at Weavers Park are almost totally sold out, these are available online only HERE and are likely to be sold out before kick-off which is at 7.45pm.

The match, which is the last before the summer break, will also be live on LOITV.

Three points would make it seven wins in eight games under new Manager Jon Daly and would keep The Saints in touch at the top of the table.

Monday's 4-1 victory at home to Derry City moved St Pat's level on points with The Candystripes in second spot, four points adrift of leaders Shamrock Rovers.

The Inchicore men have scored 18 goals in the last seven matches, with Captain Chris Forrester netting his 10th of the campaign on Monday, he is now joint top scorer in the league alongside Sligo Rovers' striker Max Mata.

Head To Head

Drogheda United have slipped to 9th place in the table, one point behind Cork City, who have won their last four matches in a row under Caretaker Manager Liam Buckley.

Drogs' lost 1-0 to Cork last Friday and 3-2 to Shelbourne on Bank Holiday Monday, they had produced back to back wins against Shamrock Rovers (2-1) and UCD (3-1) and Kevin Doherty's side be hoping to get back to winning ways in front of their home fans.

This will be the third meeting for Pat's and Drogheda this season with The Saints coming out on top so far.

A Forrester double and a late Eoin Doyle goal helped them to a 3-1 victory in Drogheda in April while two more Forrester goals and a close range Jay McClelland earned a 3-0 win in Inchicore last month, all of the goals came in the final ten minutes, with Forrester's two coming in the 89th and 92nd minutes.

"We want to keep up our level of performance - Daly:

Manager Jon Daly is delighted with his side's recent form but knows they need to keep up their levels of performance to try to pick up the points:

"The lads are confident going into the game, we're well away of the threats that Drogheda United pose. They are a decent side and they've got some very good players.

We'll give them the full respect that they deserve while also concentrating on what we're looking to do in the game.

Weavers Park is a difficult venue to go to, and although we have had good results against them recently, that counts for nothing going into this game. It's important that we turn up on Friday and play to the levels that we have done."
