#SAINTS2023 | McGrath Joins On Loan
St Patrick's Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of Jay McGrath on loan from Championship side Coventry City, subject to international clearance.
The 19-year-old centre back linked up with his new team mates this week and is pushing to be in the squad for the opening SSE Airtricity League Premier Division game of the season against Derry City this Friday.
McGrath joined Coventry City from Northern Premier Division side Mickleover FC in the summer of 2020, signing a two year contract at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Jay was named Captain of Coventry U21s and helped them to the U21 league title last season, he has also featured regularly for their U23s, he also had short term loan spell at National League North side Alfreton Town last season.
Jay said: I'm delighted to be here. I've been wanting to get out on loan and as soon as I heard St Pat's were interested I was really happy to join the club.
St Pat's is a big club with great fans and when I spoke to the Tim Clancy and Jon Daly about the way they play and the type of team we are, I couldn't wait to join.
My first session was very good, I could see straight away the quality of the boys, it's a good group of lads they were all very welcoming and we can't wait to get going in front of the fans on Friday."
Manager Tim Clancy added: "I'd like to welcome Jay to St Pat's. We are probably a little bit short in the central defensive area, Jay is a very good young player, he's a good side and very good physically, he's quite aggressive and is also a left footer, which will give us good balance in the team.
He'll give us another good option and he was in with us yesterday for the first time so we are looking forward to working with him."
