Preview: Saints Vs NS Muru (21/07/22)

European football returns to Inchicore for the first time in three years tomorrow night when St Patrick's Athletic welcome Slovenian side NS Mura in the Europa Conference League second qualifying round.

Kick-off is at 7.45pm.

Tickets for the game are totally sold out but the game will be live on LOITV, match streaming passes are 7 euro each HERE, coverage begins at 7.30pm with Oisin Langan and Conan Byrne in the commentary box.

It is the first time St Patrick's Athletic are in European action since 2019 when they exited the Europa League 1st qualifying round against Sweden's IFK Norrkoping.

Tim Clancy's men will be hoping for a change in fortune this time around against the Slovenian side.

St Pat's come into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw with Dundalk at Richmond Park last Friday.

Eoin Doyle's first-half opener was cancelled out by Daniel Kelly.

Attention has quickly turning to the Europa Conference League qualifier and it promises to be an electric atmosphere in Dublin 8.

Opposition Watch

Slovenia's NS Mura play in the town of Murska Sobota situated around two hours outside of the capital city of Ljubljana.

They play in the top tier of Slovenian football and began their new season with a 2-0 defeat to Olimpija on Sunday.

It has been a remarkable journey for Mura who rose from the fourth tier of Slovenian football to the top tier in just 5 years.

They first fielded a team for the 2013/14 4th Division season before rising through the ranks.

By 2020, Mura had won their first major trophy in 2020 when they lifted the Slovenian Cup and soon after, they helped themselves to the Slovenian League title for the first time in their history, finishing level on points with Maribor, but with a better head to head record.

Last season, they finished in 4th place, 13 points off the eventual winners Maribor.

Mura made the Europa Conference League group stages last season and were in group G alongside Rennes, Vitesse and Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite finishing last in the group, they recorded one famous win against Spurs when Amadej Marosa's injury time goal sealed a 2-1 victory in Slovenia.

Manager Tim Clancy and players Eoin Doyle, Anto Breslin and Adam O'Reilly have been looking ahead of the game on our 'Big Euro Preview Podcast', you can watch the full 15 minutes of interviews on our YouTube channel below or listen on our Talking Saints Podcast.

Team News: Adam Murphy (hamstring) is the only injury absentee.

Live Stream Tickets for the game are totally sold out but the game will be live on LOITV, match streaming passes are 7 euro each HERE, coverage begins at 7.30pm with Oisin Langan and Conan Byrne in the commentary box.
