Preview: Saints Vs Derry (29/04/22)

St Patrick's Athletic will welcome league leaders Derry City to Richmond on Friday evening in the SSE Airtricity League.

The game will kick off at 7.45pm, home tickets are available HERE right up to kick-off, with away tickets also available online, link on the Derry City social media channels.

The match will also be live on LOITV with Jamie Moore and Ger O'Brien in the commentary box.

The Saints come into the game looking to make it three wins in a row following wins over UCD and Finn Harps last week.

They were in action last Friday as they welcomed Ollie Horgan's Finn Harps to Richmond Park.

Eoin Doyle's header in the first half gave them a 1-0 lead before another Doyle goal, this time from the penalty spot just after half time helped them to a 2-0 win over the Ballybofey outfit.

St Pat's come into the game in 3rd place, seven points off their opponents tomorrow night and Tim Clancy's men will be hoping to reduce the gap to four tomorrow night.

Opposition Watch and Recent Meetings

Derry City have been in flying form in the league also far this season and have lost just once in their opening 12 games.

They sit top of the table, one point clear of Shamrock Rovers.

Ruaidhri Higgins's side were in action last Friday and were comprehensive 7-1 winners over UCD.

A hat-trick from Jamie McGonigle as well as goals from Will Patching, Cameron McJannet, Cameron Dunnigan and Ronan Boyce powered them to an impressive victory over the students.

The sides have met already this season at the Ryan McBride Brandywell and there was plenty of late drama.

Patching's goal in the fourth minute opened the scoring before Tom Grivosti bagged his first goal for the club with a spectacular strike to level things up.

However, it was Patching who struck late on in the 92nd minute to secure all three points for The Candystripes.

View From The Dugout

Manager Tim Clancy spoke to the St Pat's Youtube channel ahead of Friday night:

"It's a big game and another important one for us at home. We're hoping to get a win. We took a lot of positives from our win over Finn Harps last Friday, there is still room for improvement, but keeping a clean sheet and scoring twice was important.

We'll be looking to take the momentum of that win and the victory at UCD last Monday into Friday night against Derry and hopefully we'll get a win."

Richmond Rock Redmond

Joe Redmond has been in impressive form this season and has formed a formidable partnership with Tom Grivosti at centre back.

The 22-year-old has been an ever present for The Saints this season, and during a 15 minute in-depth interview during the week, spoke about how things are going for him so far at the club:

"I'm really loving being here and hopefully it continues that way. The lads have helped me settle in very quickly, they've welcomed me into such a good group and I'm really enjoying it.

I feel our last game against Derry could have gone either way, we had a very good period in the second-half but got beaten by two good shots from Will Patching outside the box, if we stop those shots, it's a different game, we're looking forward to trying to pick up the three points on Friday night."

Team-news: Jamie Lennon (foot) and Adam Murphy (hamstring) are unavailable, Paddy Barrett and Ben Curtis have both returned to full training and could be available for selection.

Tickets: Home tickets are available HERE right up to kick-off, with away tickets also available online, link on the Derry City social media channels.

LOITV: The match will also be live on LOITV with Jamie Moore and Ger O'Brien in the commentary box.

Updates: Alternatively, you can catch updates across all of our social media channels on Friday evening.
