FLYING START FOR GIRLS INTER SIDE
OUR WOMENS TEAM'S first venture into Intermediate football got off to a flying start. The girl's passing brand of football has fared well against Walkinstown Athletic and Dalkey United in recent league matches.
The Saints recorded an excellent 4-1 win over many people's favourites to win the division Dalkey United on Wednesday last.
The win followed a 2-2 draw with Walkinstown Athletic in their opening match of the campaign.
Dalkey came to Brickfields and in the opening half showed why they are so highly rated, however Pat's equalled them and at the break it was a goal a piece, Nicole Moran scoring the Saint's opener.
The second half was more of the same but eventually our girls passing game forced more and more chances. Nicola Scott finally gave the "blues" a deserved 2-1 advantage, however Dalkey rallied and but for 3 fine stops by Saints keeper Amy Green the south Dublin side could have levelled.
Dalkey kept pushing forward in search of the equaliser leaving more and more gaps at the back, which the girls from Inchicore exploited. Laura Norris eventually punished them breaking past their defence and sliding home goal number 3.
Five minutes later Norris turned provider. Picking the ball up in midfield she released Nicola Scott with a superb defence splitting pass, taking out 4 Dalkey defenders. Scott then kept a cool head and beat the advancing Dalkey keeper to give the Saints a fine 4-1 victory.
Clondalkin's Booth Road Celtic are the girl's next opponents on Monday June 12th.
