Saints To Celebrate Culture D8 Festival With Kids Go Free Offer

In recognition of 'Culture Date with Dublin 8', the weekend-long celebration of the cultural and historical life of Dublin 8 which takes place this weekend in Kilmainham and Inchicore, St Patrick's Athletic are to run a KIDS GO FREE offer for their home SSE Airtricity League game vs Derry City this Friday.

The Culture D8 festival will feature a host of free, family-friendly events this weekend as the programme has been expanded with the announcement of two flagship events, and a series of pop-up events taking place throughout 2018.

St Pat's home league fixture against Derry City will serve as a warm-up to the weekend's events and to mark this, all children under the age of 12 in attendance with a paying adult will receive FREE entry. All in attendance in Richmond Park on Friday will receive flyers and information about Culture D8 events including:

*A family fun day with children's entertainment, historical re-enactments, puppetry, circus skills, poetry and more at the Irish National War Memorial Gardens Sunday, 20th May;
*An outdoor concert at the temple in Goldenbridge Cemetery Saturday, 19th May;
*Bespoke guided tours of Kilmainham Gaol, including a literary tour featuring women writers, and a family tour aimed at children between the ages of six and 12;
*A Genealogy workshop, musical, and dramatic tours of Richmond Barracks;
*Guided tours of the Magazine Fort in the Phoenix Park.

"Culture Date with Dublin 8 is a unique opportunity for those living in, working in and visiting Dublin 8 to explore and celebrate the deep historical, architectural and cultural heritage of the area," commented Grace McEvoy, Project Manager of Culture Date with Dublin 8.

"The festival connects with and amplifies the wider efforts being made to regenerate the area - Kilmainham and Inchicore have so much to offer local and visitors alike, and expanding Culture Date with Dublin 8 will help us to put the area on the map as a unique, sought-after, cultural destination."

This initiative is supported and developed by Dublin City Council, Failte Ireland, Richmond Barracks, OPW, Glasnevin Trust and IMMA, and all activities and events will be free of charge. Advance ticket booking will be required for certain events, and tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Further information can be found at culturedatewithdublin8.ie.

Commenting on St Pat's promotion of the Culture D8 festival, St Patrick's Athletic Community Officer David Morrissey said:

"The football club is embedded in an area that is rich in culture and heritage. There are fantastic amenities that offer affordable family entertainment in Dublin 8 and St Patrick's Athletic is one of them. Culture D8 is all about encouraging the people living in our area to engage more with the cultural and historical heritage of their area. Richmond Barracks and Kilmainham Gaol are situated in close proximity to Richmond Park and we invite St Pat's supporters to engage with both.

"D8 also has a rich sporting heritage and we encourage people living in the area to come to Richmond Park on Friday nights to experience the atmosphere and the passion of St Patrick's Athletic and live football. To kickstart your Culture D8 weekend, why not bring your family, friends or colleagues down to Inchicore this Friday night as we face Derry City at 7:45pm. As part of the weekend's festivities, 'KIDS GO FREE' to Richmond Park and we hope to see families there to cheer on St Patrick's Athletic, the club of your area."

Echoing the sentiments of Morrissey, St Patrick's Athletic Director of Football Ger O'Brien said:

"The support we always receive in Richmond Park is brilliant. This year, with the schedule we have had, the club knows it is not easy for families to come down to games twice per week. We would like to give something back to the community and as part of the Culture D8 festival, we hope to see as many families as possible avail of our KIDS GO FREE offer this Friday night at Richmond Park. We hope to see loads of young fans in the stadium supporting the team, and enjoying their night in Inchicore."
