Pats Pay The Penalty In Tough Friendly (III)

On 60 minutes the deciding score came from the penalty spot and Chkalovets almost doubled their advantage two minutes later, Ryan making a fingertip save to push the ball onto the post from a header with the follow up shot being crashed against the crossbar. Ryan was called into action again shortly afterwards saving a long range shot low to his left.

On 69 minutes the Saints forward line was altered with Keegan and Molloy coming off to be replaced by Anthony Flood and Glenn Larsen and shortly afterwards O'Connor was replaced by Lee Roche.

With 10 minutes left John Frost was forced to clear the ball off the line after the ball had been flicked past Ryan. David Mulcahy's header from a free kick on 87 minutes was the last chance of significance of the game.

After the game John McDonnell was pleased with the overall performance of the team considering the number of changes that he had made. The squad will return to Dublin on Thursday afternoon and will face Shamrock Rovers on Friday evening in their next pre-season friendly.

Chkalovets themselves are spending four weeks in pre-season training in southern Spain having already spent a week in Turkey.
