Mulroney Shines For ROI U19
Saints' U19 midfielder Tom Mulroney played 90 minutes as Paul Doolin's Republic of Ireland U19's began their UEFA U19 Championships Elite Qualifying Round Group Four campaign with a victory over Iceland in Tallaght Stadium last night.
The Irish now sit top of the group after a double from Sam Byrne clinched the three points while the other teams in the section Serbia and Turkey drew 1-1 earlier in the day.
Byrne opened the scoring in the 50th minute when he headed home from close range after a great ball into the box by Mulroney (pictured 8 above).
Byrne, recently released by Manchester United, made it 2-0 just 10 minutes later to increase the lead, however Iceland pulled one back seven minutes later through Ævar Ingi Jóhannesson.
But Doolin's men held on for the victory in front of the onwatching senior international management team including Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane.
