2014 Setanta Sports Cup
The future of the Setanta Sports Cup has been secured following the announcement that Setanta Sports have renewed their sponsorship of the competition for a further three years.
The 2014 competition will see four clubs from the Danske Bank League compete against four clubs from the Airtricity League.
The League winners and runners up, north and south of the border, as well as the League Cup winners and Senior Challenge Cup winners were all invited to take part.
St Patrick’s Athletic (League champions), Dundalk (League runners-up), Shamrock Rovers (League Cup winners) and Sligo Rovers (FAI Cup winners) from the League of Ireland all accepted the invite as did Crusaders (League runners-up) and Glentoran (Irish Cup winners) from the Irish League.
Cliftonville (League champions and League Cup winners) and Linfield (third in Irish League) declined the invitation which was subsequently accepted by the next eligible clubs, Ballinamallard United (fifth in Irish League) and Coleraine (sixth in Irish League).
This will be Ballinamallard’s first appearance in the competition.
The draw will take place on Wednesday next, December 11, at 12noon in the Aviva Stadium and games will commence in February over home and away legs with the final scheduled as a one-off match on Saturday, May 10, 2014.
The prize fund of €73,000 will be distributed as follows:
Winners: €30,000 plus €3,000 for participating.
Runners-Up: €10,000 plus €3,000 for participating.
Other participants: €4,500 each.
