THE MAKING OF THE SAINTS IN EUROPE DVD

Why did the club decide to make the DVD?
The 2008 UEFA Cup run was pretty special for Pat's fans and for everyone involved with the club so we thought a product like this would be a perfect way to relive and remember the campaign.

How did you end up managing the DVD project?
I studied film at college in Australia, and when I got here I kept an eye out for projects that would enable me to put my skills to use.

So when I heard about this, I jumped at the chance of completing a work placement at the club.

Where do you start on a project like that?
Well I'm an editor first and foremost, so all I was thinking about was
how to edit the thing.

Fortunately I had help from Dave Thompson and Donal Burke, the media team here, and they were better able to work out how we needed to plan the whole thing.

The very first thing I did was to write a script outlining what footage we needed, how it would be cut together and how it would match the player interviews.

Describe the processes and stages?
Having written the script, I then forwarded it on to Richard who liked
what he saw. From there we got Dave and Donal involved.

They were very important in sourcing footage and organizing interviews and the whole thing wouldn't have been possible without them.

So we filmed the interviews at the club towards the end of the season, got all the match footage and then came the fun part - putting the whole thing together and that took three weeks.

The DVD itself runs for over an hour and a half, so there was a lot to cut together.

Did you need any help?
I got a lot of help along the way, whether it was from the staff here in the office giving me their opinions, the media team who put in a hell of a lot of work (on a volunteer basis no less), Richard with getting the footage or Tony O'Donoghue who got some great footage over in Berlin, and provided us with the voiceover to tie the whole thing together.

A special thanks must go to Greg Clifford and his band for coming to the rescue and allowing us to use his music in the DVD.

Are you happy with the finished product?
Definitely, I am moving on to London before going back to Oz but I had a great few weeks at the club and I would like to think that I created something which a lot of people will get to enjoy.
