FOURTEENS FOURMIDABLE

The schoolboys new season kicked off with our Under 14s away to Cabinteely on Saturday.

After a fairly intense pre-season the 14's started brightly but so did their hosts as the game was played at an fast pace without any real threat on either goal.

The referee kept the game from boiling over showing his authority as early as the 4th minute, booking the Cabinteely number 9 for an over zealous tackle.

The Saints eventually settled and in the 10th minute went ahead when Keifer Byrne latched onto a ball across the box and from 17 yards out blasted home.

It got better for the Inchicore lads when Will McMahon's 32nd minute corner low into the front post was tapped home by Karl Tims ghosting in ahead of his marker.

In the 2nd half a needlessly given away corner led to Cabinteely steering the ball past Carroll - 7 minutes after the restart. The home side then pressed for an equaliser but the back 3 of Alex Dolan, Eoin Byrne and Craig Smithers were resolute.

In the 61st minute Pats keeper Martin Carroll rolled the ball out to Dolan who played the ball to Jason Ryan wide on the right. Ryan beat his marker and drove into the opposition half, eventually getting to just outside the Cabinteely box to unleash an unstoppable pile driver, 3-1. The goal of the game.

It got better for the Saints as 2 minutes from the end, Smithers won possesion in midfield and released Tims into the corner, a brilliant cross from the end line found Danny O'Leary peeling off his marker at the back post to head home and seal the 4-1 win.

We wish all our teams the best of luck as they all begin their new seasons in the coming weeks.
