O'BRIEN MISSES OUT AS SAINTS DEPART

The Saints squad departed for Sweden this afternoon without winger Derek O'Brien who has been ruled out of Thursday's UEFA Cup clash with IF Elfsborg.

O'Brien has stitches in an ankle wound which has become infected and manager John McDonnell will now look to others to fill the gap on the left hand side.

Speaking to stpatsfc.com McDonnell said:

"The left side has been a problem for us and losing Derek doesn't help.

"It's a blow to the balance of the side but we have options and people will have to come in and do jobs for us."

The Saints are also without long term absentees Gary O'Neill (groin) and Dave Partridge (wrist) while Noel Haverty is ruled out with a recurrence of an ankle injury.
