A-Team Fixture Change
The A-Team continue their Shield fixtures with a home game against UCD tonight (Wednesday) in Richmond Park. The Saints defeated The Students in their first fixture last week and the men from Belfield will no doubt be seeking revenge.
stpatsfc.com caught up with A-Team Coach Cyril Walsh who explained that with the first team squad decimated by injuries he will have to turn to youth tomorrow night.
"Our team will be made up of mostly lads from the Under 18's. We won't really have any first team players available as we really are down to the bare bones due to injuries.
"We'll have a young and inexperienced team but the young lads who defeated UCD last week really acquitted themselves well and I'm sure they'll put in a good performance."
Walsh has been around the scenes at Richmond Park for close to 20 years and has seen reserve team football take numerous guises.
"The A League is really a return to the old B or Reserve team system with the Under 20's added in to cater for developing younger players.
"It effectively reverts to the old system as there are no restrictions on players as there was in the Under 21 League. It makes sense, particularly for clubs with larger squads, as it allows players who are coming back from injury or not involved in the first team to get games on a regular basis.
"We had reached a stage where some players had reached 22 and had nowhere to go. They may not have been quite ready for the first team despite their potential but we had no way of getting them games. Thankfully that's gone"
Kick-Off in Richmond Park is at 7.30 tomorrow night and all support is welcome.
