BARCA SING THE BLUES – Barca 2008 Part 2

Both sides St Pats Blues and St Pats Reds kicked off side by side with the Blues taking on the might of FC Barcelona and the Reds the host club Europa SC in the first matches.

The Blues got off to a nervous start against the famous Catalan club and found it difficult to come to terms with the opposition's slick passing and movement. Eventually after a few close shaves, halftime arrived with both teams all square at 0-0.

The Blues seemed to take heart from that and grew in confidence and began to play with their own passing game putting Barca on the back foot. The break through came midway through the half when Keifer Byrne slipped through the Barca defence and beat the advancing keeper lifting the ball over him and into the net.

A lack of discipline lead to the Catalans equalizing when Dale Kirwan kicked an opposing player in the box, Barcelona made the Saints pay the ultimate price scoring from the spot.

With minutes remaining, Keifer Byrne again broke through the Barcelona cover and finished with great accuracy to give St Pats Blues a great start and a superb 2-1 win.
