SAINTS BREAK HARPS TUNE

It wasn't a good weekend for any team with Harps in their name if they were playing St Pats.

Pat's seniors destroyed Finn Harps 3-0 in Fortress Finn Park on Friday and on Saturday our under 13's recorded a resounding 2-0 win over Ratoath Harps in Brickfields. It could have been more but for some wasteful finishing.

The 13s created about 14 chances but only took 2. They stormed into a 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutes but there after couldn't add to the scoreline. Danny O'Leary could have had scored 4 goals in those 15 minutes but had to be content with the 2 he did score. Brilliantly losing his marker both times to drift in at the back post he scored 2 well taken goals.

Chance after chance came the Saints way. Derek Warren blasted over from 6 yards. Alex Dolan repeated the trick minutes later as the Ratoath goal lived a charmed life. Gareth Byrne scuffed his chance after a well worked free-kick.

The 2nd half continued in the same vein. Craig Smithers hit a 30-yard rocket that flew over by millimetres. Kevin Corcoran blazed over another chance from 6 yards. Aaron Oliver saw his shot narrowly go the wrong side of the post. Karl Tims went close a number of times and as the game entered it's final stages Craig Smithers had a header go narrowly over when it was probably easier to have scored.

In the end it was a good performance and you can't complain with a 3rd clean sheet in a row and another 3 points.

The 13s now head off to Barcelona next weekend where they will play in the Copa Internacional against FC Barcelona, Europa SC and Alemania de Barcelona.
