15's SEMI FINAL CUP SUCCESS

OUR 15 Major side qualified for the Fenlon Cup final following a dramatic penalty shoot-out win over Leixlip United. Congratulations to both the players and management.

Pats fell behind as early as the fifth minute when good work by Leixlip was rewarded with the game's opening goal. Pats kept plugging away creating a number of chances but it wasn't until mid-way through the second half that Karl Lawless converted to level the game at one all.

Both sides had chances to win the game both in normal time and extra time but the game remained locked at 1-1 at the final whistle.

In the shootout Pats went first and Padraic Fitgerald converted. Leixlip also converted their first penalty. Then Danny Murphy made no mistake, 2-1.

Kieran Dodd the Saints keeper handed the Inchicore outfit the initiative saving Leixlip's second.

Then the game swung back to Leixlip when Brian Tyrell missed and they scored their next. 2-2 after 3 penalties each.

Graham Reilly then netted and having saved one Keiran Dodd now turned goal scorer when he blasted his spot kick home. Leixlip also made sure with their final two kicks.

It was now sudden death after the first five penalties the sides remained tied at 4 all. Up stepped Chris Cooney 5-4 to Pats.

The Leixlip goalkeeper now had to level but blasted wide sending Pats into the final where they will meet Manortown United who also won on penalties against Celbridge Town.

Both finalists meet in a dress rehearsal for the final when they meet in the league this Tuesday in Greentrees at 6:30.

Again well done all.
