St Patrick's Athletic suffered their second defeat of the 2022 season with a 1-0 loss to Bohemians at Dalymount. A Stephen Mallon goal four minutes into the second half was enough for The Gypsies to claim all three points on the night.

St Pats had the ball in the net in just the third minute when Tundi Owolabi buried home. Jamie Lennon's long ball over the top set Eoin Doyle free. Doyle did well to turn and laid it to on an onrushing Mark Doyle but his effort was well blocked. The rebound did fall to Tundi Owolabi who buried the ball home, but the linesman's flag for offside ruled the goal out.

Five minutes later and at the other end, Joseph Anang had to be alert at his near post when Kris Twardek showed real trickery with a couple of step-overs and his snapshot called Anang into action as he palmed the stinger away for a corner.

St Pats enjoyed a lot of possession early on and looked a lot more comfortable on the ball. However, they didn't look like threatening James Talbot in the early exchanges and instead it was Bohs who created the first clear cut chance of the game. Tyreke Wilson's free kick was well saved by Anang and the rebound fell straight to the head of Grant Horton who's header was somehow cleared off the line by St Pats left back Anto Breslin.

It was Bohs again who went close 32 minutes in. Ali Coote and Promise Omochere combined well and the latter found Stehphen Mallon at the back post completely unmarked. However, Mallon's shot was expertly saved by Anang again as he got down terrifically to deny the Bohs winger.

Twardek looked the most dangerous on the right hand side for The Gypsies and he did deliver numerous dangerous crosses into the area, but to no avail.

Tundi Owolabi went closest for The Saints in the first half when he forced James Talbot into making a decent save, but Neil Doyle's half time whistle brought the curtain down on an entertaining first half at Dalymount, with the deadlock yet to be broken.

Four minutes into the second half, Stephen Mallon broke the deadlock. A long ball cleared the St Pats defence and it fell to Stephen Mallon on the edge of the area. His left footed shot sailed into the far corner past a helpless Anang in the St Pats goal.

Chances dried up in the second half with both sides enjoying their own purple patches. Billy King and Darragh Burns were both introduced in an attempt to grab an equaliser for Tim Clancy's men.

Chances were extremely limited in the second half with both teams struggling to break down respective defences. The Saints tried everything towards the end but they just could not break down a stubborn Bohs defence and in the end, the Phibsborough outfit held on for victory.
