Derek Foran

    • Position: Defender
    • Number: TBC
    • Age: 34 (8th October, 1989)

Derek returned to the Saints in the 2014 close season having previously starred for the club at schoolboy level.

The Dubliner joined the schoolboy section from Templeogue United, going on to represent the Republic of Ireland at U18 level while still at the Saints.

Despite excelling at youth level, Foran failed to break into the first team, the closest chances being in 2007 as the defender was an unused substitute in an FAI Cup defeat to Bohemians and the Saints' Uefa Cup defeat away to Odense in Denmark.

Foran was loaned out to Eddie Gormley's Bray Wanderers at the start of the 2008 season, with the move later being made permanent after he impressed the former Saints' great. Foran held down his place at the Carlisle Grounds for 2 season, before moving west to Sligo.

During his time with the Bit O'Red, Foran won back to back FAI Cups in 2010 and 2011, while also claiming an EA Sports Cup winners medal from the 2010 season with the Bit O'Red.

Foran joined Sean McCaffrey's youthful Dundalk side in 2012, however the move proved to be a test of the defender's character as the Lilywhites battled relegation all season, only escaping the drop after a relegation-promotion victory against Waterford United.

Derek joined Shamrock Rovers for the 2013 season in which he played a part in each of Shamrock Rovers' successes in the Setanta Sports Cup, EA Sports Cup, and Leinster Senior Cup. However with the Hoops' league form not matching their cup exploits, the year proved disappointing for Foran.

The defender saw red against the Saints while playing for Shamrock Rovers in August 2013. After being dispossessed by Anto Flood, Foran fouled the Saints' striker in the penalty area, conceding a penalty and receiving his marching orders. The penalty was put away by Conan Byrne, as the Saints went on to run out 4-0 winners with Byrne scoring all four.

Previous Clubs: St. Patrick's Athletic (2002-2008), Bray Wanderers (2008-2010), Sligo Rovers (2010-2012), Dundalk (2012), Shamrock Rovers (2013).
