Paul McGrath

    • Position: Defender
    • Number: TBC
    • Age: 64 (4th December, 1959)

Paul McGrath signed for St Pats from Dalkey United in the summer of 1981 originally as a potential centre-forward. However his skill as a centre-half quickly became apparent.

He was transferred to Manchester United at the end of the 1981-82 season, and it was as a defender that he was to become famous at international level.

However, Paul's versatility was shown by his appearance at mid-field on many occasions with the Irish International team. He is pictured above receiving the Addidas Golden Boot Award in 1981 while playing for 'The Saints'.

Although he was only one season with the 'Saints' his impact was immense and the 'Saint's 'loss' in him moving to Manchester United and later to Aston Villa, ultimately was world football's gain.

It is with great pride that we associate 'The Black Pearl of Inchicore' with St Patrick's Athletic.
