Lorcan Fitzgerald

    • Position: Defender
    • Number: 12
    • Age: 35 (3rd January, 1989)

25 year old Lorcan joined the Saints midway through the 2013 season having been a free agent following his release by Shelbourne.

As a youth, Fitzgerald's first club was Shelbourne, however Lorcan's talent was spotted by English side West Ham United. Lorcan learned his trade at the Hammers for three years before he decided to return home in 2009.

With various deals on the table from different clubs in the League of Ireland, Fitzgerald chose to join Liam Buckley's Sporting Fingal where he immediately came into contention to regularly play. The left full-back's signing gave Buckley's side an added option to their already talented squad, and Fitzgerald was soon celebrating both promotion and an FAI Cup victory with Buckley's side following their 2-1 victory over Sligo Rovers.

In 2010, Lorcan went on to make 24 appearances for Fingal, including a goalscoring one in the Raven's away leg to Maritímo of Portugal in the Europa League. However when the Fingal project ran into difficulties, he was left in limbo - joining Shelbourne at short notice ahead of the 2011 season.

Similar to his first season at Fingal, Fitzgerald was part of a First Divison side that reached an FAI Cup final against Sligo Rovers having also won promotion. However unlike Fingal, Lorcan and his Shels at the time lost the final on penalties - Lorcan sadly however had been injured for the occasion.

Injuries hampered Lorcan's 2012 season with Shelbourne as he only made 15 appearances, and at the beginning of 2013 he was still struggling for fitness.

When the opportunity arose to be re-united with a Liam Buckley managed side however, Fitzgerald jumped at the chance and signed for the Saints.

Fitzgerald made his début in the Saints' 2-1 defeat in the EA Sports Cup last year to Shamrock Rovers, while he also played in the Saints Leinster Senior Cup Final defeat to the same opposition.

In 2014, the defender will be pressing to be involved from the outset.

Previous Clubs: Shelbourne (youth), West Ham United (2007-09), Sporting Fingal (2009-2010), Shelbourne (2011-13).
