Mahon Blasts Kick-off Time

THE holders may have been knocked out of the FAI Ford Cup, but the real talking point in Inchicore was the attendance as a paltry 759 turned up for the game, which kicked off at 1.0 and was live on RTE.

"For me, playing at 1.0 on a Saturday is absolutely dreadful," Mahon said. "We lost about €20,000 today. It's going to kill us. I'm working off a budget here that is greatly reduced from last season and every few pounds count.

"We were depending on getting a good crowd and that's disappointing, but we've no control over that and we'll just have to put that to one side and enjoy the moment."

Ryan Guy put the Saints in front after 22 minutes with an excellent finish, before Damian Lynch headed home James O'Brien's corner after the interval.

A Shaun Williams thunderbolt brought the visitors back into the game, but Fingal couldn't make their pressure pay and Vinny Faherty put the game beyond doubt.
