PETE MAHON'S Saints maintained their 100pc start to the season with a victory that proved harder earned than the scoreline suggests.
A Vinny Faherty goal deep into first-half injury-time followed by a late Ryan Guy double ensured it was three out of three for the St Pat's without a goal conceded.
The Saints had their first chance on 15 minutes, but UCD 'keeper Billy Brennan dealt comfortably with Stuart Byrne's strike.
Brennan then had to be at his best to deny Alex Williams in the 23rd minute after the St Pat's striker produced a surprise strike on the turn from 30 yards.
But the UCD 'keeper was helpless to prevent Faherty opening the scoring on the stroke of half-time as he pounced on a poor clearance by Evan McMillan and then flicked the ball past Andy Boyle before lobbing the advancing 'keeper with aplomb.
UCD almost stole a fortunate equaliser on the hour-mark when Ciaran Nangle's cross from the left flank drifted over Gary Rogers' head before striking the St Pat's crossbar.
Guy made it 2-0 with four minutes left after neat work by Gareth Coughlan and Conor Sinnott and the American bagged his second goal less than a minute later after Paul Byrne rounded Brennan before cutting the ball back.
