Jeff Kenna has stepped down as manager of Galway United to take charge of Dublin side St Patrick's Athletic.

Kenna, who helped Galway avoid relegation from the Premier Division last season, had previously indicated that he would be in charge of Galway for the forthcoming season.

However, he informed the club that he was no longer in a position to fulfil his commitment to the club and would be resigning as manager, and St Pat's have confirmed that he is their successor to Johnny McDonnell.

'Jeff brings a great deal of football experience, knowledge and enthusiasm to the role and everyone at the club is looking forward to working with him over the coming season,' said Pat's CEO Richard Sadlier.
