St Patrick's recorded their third win of the season over Finn Harps after Martin Russell's 18th minute free-kick was sufficient to plunge the Donegal side deeper into relegation trouble.
Russell's goal came from a delightful shot curled in from the edge of the area and it was enough to settle what was a largely drab game.
Harps did finish the first half the stronger and Shane Bradley came close to forcing an equaliser when he flashed a header off the Pat's crossbar.
The home side kept up the pressure after the break and Kevin McHugh, who had a first half effort cleared off the line by Pat's defender Trevor Crolly, went close but his shot was saved by goalkeeper Seamus Kelly.
In the end, Harps could not get the equaliser – the defeat leaving them without a win in eight games and very much relegation candidates in the new year.
