Dundalk 0 - St Patrick's Athletic 0

An experimental St Patrick's Athletic played out a nil-all draw with Dundalk at Oriel Park tonight.

John McDonnell used the opportunity of this first pre-season friendly to give 19 of his players some first team action! Despite over 3 weeks of pre-season training under their belts, the Saints looked a bit rusty in front of goal, squandering 4 glorious chances in the second half.

Lee Roche, a recent acquisition from Shamrock Rovers blazed over the bar following good work down the left channel by Sean O'Connor, and Anthony Flood, who spent the majority of last season on-loan to Athlone Town also blazed over, when he really should have hit the target.

John McGill's Athlone Town never troubled either Barry Ryan or Brendan Clarke, but Trevor Vaughan did come close to snatching a win for the hosts in the final few minutes.

The Saints continue their pre-season training over the weekend, and are back in action twice next week. On Wednesday they host Finn Harps and on Friday they host Kildare County.
