THEY might not have reproduced the five-star style that blitzed Shamrock Rovers last Friday, but St Pat's were always too good for UCD at Richmond Park.
The Students went close to going ahead on 37 minutes when Barry Murphy made a good save to deny Graham Rusk after he had been played in by Barry McCabe's excellent pass.
St Pats struck on the stroke of half-time. After Ian Daly's shot was blocked, the ball fell to Sean O'Connor, who hit the crossbar just a minute earlier, and he slotted it past Mark McGinley.
Whatever hopes UCD had of mounting a comeback all but disappeared 13 minutes into the second half. Hugh Douglas gave the ball away to Dean Kelly and he played it to Greg Bolger, who set up Ian Daly for a simple finish.
UCD pulled a goal back in the 83rd minute. Substitute Chris Lyons found himself through on goal after a poor Kenny Browne header and the former Belvedere player didn't hesitate to hammer the ball past Murphy.
