A MAGNIFICENTLY struck 75th minute winner by winger Stephen Hurley from 16 yards earned UCD another vital three points against St Patrick's Athletic in a low-key Premier Division contest at Belfield Park last night.
College started the stronger when Derek Doyle had a header pushed over by 'keeper Barry Ryan but it was St Pat's who almost took a surprise lead on 14 minutes when defender David Bell's long range effort flew just over the bar with 'keeper Darren Quigley out of position.
College threatened when a free by Alan Mahon was comfortably gathered by former UCD 'keeper Ryan.
At the other end, Keith Fahey's free was headed narrowly wide by Gerard Rowe before Ryan then rescued St Pat's as he cut out a dangerous cross from Hurley.
A clever move on 64 minutes between Paul Dicker and Stephen Hurley set up an opening for Doyle only for his header to bounce straight into the arms of the alert Ryan. McDonnell then had another header saved by the St Pat's 'keeper.
College eventually grabbed the lead on 75 minutes when winger Hurley fired home a tremendous effort into the left hand corner of the net.
