St Patrick's Athletic, the 2003 eircom League winners, advanced to the last eight of this season's renewal with victory over a fringe Bohemians side at Dalymount Park on Tuesday night.
Bohs player-manager Gareth Farrelly made 10 changes from the side that played against KAA Gent in the Intertoto Cup at the weekend – John Paul Kelly, the 18-year-old midfielder, was the only player to remain in the XI – as he rested the majority of first choice side for Saturday evening's return in Belgium.
Goalkeeper Shay Kelly, centre half Terry Palmer and winger Fergal Harkin were the most experienced Gypsies on show, while there were senior debuts for six under-21 players, including Mark Duggan and Paul Dunphy.
Bohs contributed plenty to the game, recovering after Keith Dunne's opener for Saints to level through Dunphy on the half hour.
The home side were still level with 20 minutes remaining but Barry Prenderville put the visitors in front and Aidan O'Keeffe sealed Saints' passage six minutes from the end.
