Saints Maher, Nolan & O'Farrell In Ireland U17 Squad For Euro Championships

St Patrick's Athletic players Brian Maher, Luke Nolan and Richie O'Farrell have been named in the Republic of Ireland U17 squad for the European Championship Finals which begin in Croatia on Thursday.

Goalkeeper Brian and midfielders Luke and Richie were all in the squad that won three games from three in the Elite Phase Qualifiers in February and were all a part of St Patrick's Athletic U17 Elite Division winning team last season.

Ireland made it through qualifying with an unbeaten record, winning all six games, scoring 16 goals and recording four clean sheets. It puts them in a good position going into the tournament.

The young boys in green will face Serbia, Bosnia & & Herzegovina and Germany as they bid to make it out of Group C.
The top two teams will qualify for the quarter-finals.

The squad met up in Dublin on Saturday and will fly out tomorrow ahead of their opening game against Serbia on Thursday.

Ireland Head Coach Colin O'Brien has been speaking to FAI.IE

He's pleased with how preparations have gone so far.

"Everybody is ready to go. The squad has been named and obviously we had a few tough decisions to make - that's the nature of the international game. We've had over 20 players that have contributed this year in the campaign."

They'll meet Bosnia & Herzegovina on Sunday, May 7th, before playing Germany on Wednesday, May 10th, which will be screened live on Eurosport 1.
