Pats Pay The Penalty In Tough Friendly (II)

The next real chance came on 29 minutes, Alan Reilly played a cross-field ball to Mark Rutherford on the left corner who cut inside and beat four men before sliding the ball to Keegan on the near post, his effort going narrowly wide.

Two minutes later Reilly chased in on a Sean O'Connor cross from the left and in the tangle with the defender the ball almost eluded the keeper who had to pull off a fine save.

Barry Ryan was called into action on 35 minutes although the header from a free kick did go straight into his arms. However on 39 minutes as Darragh Maguire and a Russian striker challenged each other for the ball in the Saints penalty area the referee somewhat harshly adjudged that Maguire had comitted an infringment and pointed to the penalty spot. Ryan saved the subsequent spot kick low to his right.

Ryan made another save from a direct free kick shortly before half time before O'Connor's cross-cum-shot nearly dropped in over the keeper. At half time the teams were level at 0-0.

In the second minute of the second half Barry Ryan was called back into action saving a deflected shot to his left. Stephen Caffrey and Alan Reilly were then replaced by Stephen Quigley and Vinnie Perth, Quigley moving to right full with Brennan slotting in at centre-half.

Saints best chance of the second half came on 52 minutes when an O'Connor cross from the left reached an unmarked Keegan but his header from six yards curled agonisingly past the top corner.

Mark Quigley replaced Mark Rutherford on 59 minutes.
