St Patrick's Athletic begin their 2014 FAI Ford Cup campaign on Friday night as they face non league side St Patrick's CY in Richmond Park (kick-off 7.45pm).
Following wins over Derry City and Drogheda United in the last week, Liam Buckley's side go into the clash with Derek Bowden's Ringsend side in good form.
For the Leinster Senior league outfit, they will look to the likes of former Shelbourne and Dundalk player Alan Murphy for inspiration, while with 27 goals this year, CY striker Thomas Dunne will be a threat for the Saints' defence.
In team news, the Saints welcome Greg Bolger back into the fold after injury, while Derek Foran will be given extra time to recover from a knee injury, with the defender expected to train next week.
“We've had St Pat's CY watched twice recently and they've been impressive,” Liam Buckley told stpatsfc.com. “We'll respect them and give them their dues on Friday, so we won't be taking this game lightly at all. They've got some impressive results against League of Ireland sides in recent years, having only lost 1-0 against Shamrock Rovers in the Leinster Senior Cup final two years ago.”
“The FAI Cup would be one of the competitions along with the league that we would really be looking to progress in, so we'll be giving it everything to get through to the next round.”
