Conan To The Fore In Win
It was a night to remember for the Saints as they claimed a terrific 4-0 league win away to Dublin rivals Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght Stadium last night, but the 4 goal haul of Conan Byrne will be long remembered by fans in Inchicore.
Scoring the opening goal on five minutes after good work by Stephen Maher, Byrne scored penalties on 35 and 56 minutes and rounded off his tally with a tap in on 62 minutes.
"It was a good team performance," Byrne told stpatsfc.com. "Like two penalties, fair enough Killian [Brennan] wasn't on the pitch so it was my duty to step up as second penalty taker. I was confident enough that I'd score and thankfully on the two occasions I did."
"But it was great as we did owe them one after our performance here at the start of the season, and we hadn't beaten them so far this season. So to come out to Tallaght and win 4-0, it shows a statement of intent I suppose. Hopefully we'll stay top of the league and hopefully we'll stay there till the end of the season."
