Cup Preview
St Pat's begin the defence of their Leinster Senior Cup crown with a home tie against non-league Phoenix FC in the fourth round.
Following a 2-0 win away to Dundalk last Friday night, Liam Buckley has indicated that while his side will be aiming to defend their crown, he will use the game to give 90 minutes to members of the squad that sat out the game in Oriel Park.
“We'll try and win, but that said, anyone who played against Dundalk won't play against Phoenix. We're going to involve some of the U19's as there's one or two of them that will be involved with the squad once their season finishes in a couple of months time.”
“The game gives us an opportunity to have a look at some them because I do rate one or two of them quite highly. One or two of them will start, so we'll go and try and win from there.”
The Leinster Senior Cup gave last year's panel the chance to lift a trophy and one member of last year's winning squad, Jake Carroll, knows that the competition is a chance to go out and impress.
“It was great winning the cup last year, and the competition really is a good chance for the younger players like myself to impress. I was new last year and it was great for me to come in and play. It's a great opportunity to go out and put pressure on the first team.”
Kick-off is at 7:45pm in Richmond Park.
