PATS OFF TO WINNING START
St Patrick's Athletic got the new season off to a winning start with a 1-0 victory over Bray Wanderers in Richmond Park.
Dean Kelly scored the only goal of the game after 15 minutes, on his league debut, with a header from a Seán O'Connor corner.
The Saints had seven players making their league debuts from the start while Jake Kelly, Stephen O'Flynn and Darren Meenan made their debuts from the bench.
The second half saw both sides have their moments but the primary talking points were two red cards, one for each side.
Dave Webster saw red for Bray for two bookable offences before former seagull Jake Kelly got his marching orders from referee Alan Kelly for what appeared to be an innocuous coming together with Dane Massey.
Bray tried to push for an equaliser but it was Darren Quigley who was the busier of the goalkeepers, keeping both Stephen O'Flynn and Darren Meenan from adding to the Saints' lead in the closing stages.
Next up for Liam Buckley's men is a trip to Oriel Park to face Dundalk next Friday night.
