SHANE GUTHRIE RETURNS TO SAINTS' SQUAD

St Patrick's Athletic are delighted to announce that Shane Guthrie has signed a new contract for the 2011 season.

Shane made 28 league appearances for the Saints last season scoring three goals from centre half where he formed a strong partnership with Conor Kenna.

Saints' boss Pete Mahon told STPATSFC.COM that there were some delays to securing the deal but that he was delighted to have Guthrie available:

"Shane had a great season last year and put in some very impressive performances.

"He picked up an injury towards the end of last season that was difficult to diagnose so we had to wait for all the medical reports to come through before we could sign him up.

"There were other clubs interested but to be fair to Shane he enjoyed himself here last season and he wanted to sign for us.

"There's going to be great competition at centre half this season with Shane, Conor Kenna, Brian Shorthall and Evan McMillan all competing for the place.

"We're in five competitions though so we'll need that depth in the squad to help us compete on all fronts."

Mahon also confirmed that the club are hoping to sign former UCD striker Karl Moore while Derby County striker Greg Mills was offered a deal but has gone elsewhere.

"Karl Moore has been training with us and we hope that we can bring him in."

"He's had an offer from Yeovil Town to go over next week so we will have to wait on his decision and see what happens in that regard.

"We also hoped to sign Greg Mills from Derby County who is the type of player who really would have suited us.

"We offered him a deal but unfortunately he wanted to stay in England and has signed for Telford United for the rest of the season."

"We're still working on bringing in another striker so hopefully that can happen soon enough."

The Saints begin their competitive season with a trip to play Cliftonville on 21st February.
