Statement By The Board Of St Patrick's Athletic On St Michael's Estate

The board of St Patrick's Athletic Football Club has been monitoring developments regarding the St Michael's Estate in Inchicore.

The club has had informal discussions with local community representatives and continues to explore whether or not the St Michael's site would meet the needs of the local community.

The owner of St Patrick's Athletic FC, Mr Garrett Kelleher, owns property company Shelbourne Development and when he purchased the club in April 2007 he committed himself to improving its facilities.

The board of the club has to evaluate - in light of the announcement by Dublin City Council that the proposed Public Private Partnership would not now progress - whether its interests would be better served by developing the existing stadium or by moving to an adjoining site.

Mr Kelleher's ambition is to keep St Patrick's Athletic in Inchicore.

The club recognise that any evaluation of the St Michael's Estate would have to give due consideration to the needs and aspirations of the local community.

The club will make no further comment at this time.
