LIAM BUCKLEY has denied that Niall Quinn will be getting involved with St Patrick's Athletic after the former Ireland striker parted company with Sunderland.

Buckley is friends with Quinn, and the pair were previously involved in discussions about launching a bid to take over Shamrock Rovers.

There have been rumours circulating that Quinn might come on board at Inchicore in some capacity, but the Saints boss insisted yesterday that no discussions have taken place.

"I haven't spoken to Niall about St Pat's," said Buckley. "I know Niall and he's a very busy man. I did speak with him a few years back in regard to Shamrock Rovers at that period. A golden opportunity there went missing.

"Don't get me wrong -- if he had spare time, we'd love to get involved, but I know he's busy. He barely has time for a game of golf, which he loves.

"But he has this other business that he's doing (a broadband company named Q Sat) and he has an awful lot of things going on. I'm sure he will get back involved (in football) in his own time. Where that will be, I don't know."

Buckley is excited to be back at Pat's and believes his 21-man squad will be capable of competing this year. And he is adamant they will do so while playing an attractive brand of football.

"It's far more enjoyable for supporters and players, and it's the way forward from a European perspective," said Buckley.

"Sligo Rovers have passed it over the past few years, UCD pass it. Outside of that, Shamrock Rovers to a degree did, but not the way we previously did at Fingal. We'll certainly be working on that this year."
