St Patrick’s Athletic manager John McDonnell is keen to bring in former Newcastle United defender Stephen Brennan, who was released by the Magpies at the end of last season.
Brennan spent the first three months of the Irish season on loan at Shelbourne, but failed to impress sufficiently to earn a long-term contract with the eircom League champions.
The Republic of Ireland under-21 international has been without a club since parting company with Shels in June, and Saints are hoping to bring him to Richmond Park.
The 22-year-old right back can sign outside the eircom League transfer window as he is a free agent.
Pats boss John McDonnell told the Irish Sun: “I have been in touch with Stephen but while I am keen for him to join us, nothing has been finalised. Hopefully, though, we can get him on board shortly.”
