A superb late goal by Billy Gibson gave St Patrick's Athletic a share of the spoils against Polish side Wisla Krakow in a packed Richmond Park last night.
The midfielder curled a sumptuous finish into the Wisla net from the edge of the area seven minutes from time to cancel out Macherlin Dudu's superb opener for the Poles.
There is clearly an appetite for live football amongst the Polish community in the capital judging by the sizable crowd in attendance -- almost two-thirds of which were Polish. However, this was not solely a marketing venture for the Saints.
After a humbling experience earlier this season at the hands of Danish side Odense it was an instructive evening for John McDonnell as he ponders yet another campaign in next season's UEFA Cup.
Wisla currently sit at the top of the Polish top division and the visitors showed just how difficult life can be for an eircom League side against professional sides from the continent.
It took Wisla until the second half to break down a dogged Saints' defence when Dudu showed his strength in riding the tackle of Dave Rogers in the box before a flashing a thunderous drive inside Ryan's near post as the Wisla man made light of the tight angle but it was not enough to secure the win.
